Stagecraft workshop series by Prototype
Wed. July 10, 2024, 6-8pm

This workshop will focus on ways to present your body on stage and will be led by artist-in-exile, Mai Khoi. Once dubbed Vietnam’s “Lady Gaga,” singer/songwriter Mai Khoi emerged from her life as a pop star to become an internationally lauded human rights activist. She will begin by performing an excerpt of her show Bad Activist and then talk about her experience on all kinds of stages ranging from small bars and clubs to big TV stages and talk shows. The remainder of the workshop will be interactive, offering a chance for participants to try out new performance elements and have a Q&A. Bring your voice and/or your instrument and have a two-minute excerpt in mind for a very casual, no-stress sharing if time permits and you feel comfortable. Light snacks provided!
Stagecraft will create a space for young women and gender expansive folks to build their voice and confidence through the art of staged performance. Stagecraft, will be available to performers practicing any performance art centered around voice whether it’s music, theater, or spoken word poetry. By completing the Stagecraft program, participants will have skills to continue working in performing arts while also gaining skills that will translate into any kind of public presentation; how to work a room, how to make a pitch, etc. https://www.stagecraftpgh.com/
